Enforcement hub
Which foreign judgments are enforced in the Portugal
Portugal recognizes a foreign judgment through revisao e confirmacao before the Tribunal da Relacao. The decision must already be transitado em julgado in the country of origin. This hub links to pages built around the origin jurisdiction, because the applicable regime, the admission conditions and the fallback route change with where the judgment comes from, not with the fact that Portugal is the destination.

Recognition in Portugal depends on the origin jurisdiction. Each page below sets out the regime and the fallback route for that pair.
- United Kingdom to Portugal: no bilateral convention post-Brexit changes the starting point.
- United Arab Emirates to Portugal: reciprocity and legalization sit outside EU instruments.
- United States to Portugal: no treaty on judgments, so national rules apply.
- Switzerland to Portugal: Lugano Convention questions meet Portuguese admission rules.
- Singapore to Portugal: reciprocity is checked case by case.
- Cyprus to Portugal: an intra-EU route, distinct from the non-EU pages above.
- Refusal to enforce a judgment: what changes once the debtor contests recognition.
The wider enforcement hub covers destination countries beyond Portugal.
